Kamianets-Podilskyi
Formerly the administrative center of the Khmelnytskyi Oblast, the city is now the administrative center of the Kamianets-Podilskyi Raion (district) within the Khmelnytsky Oblast (province), after the administrative center of the oblast was moved from the city of Kamyanets-Podilsky to the city of Khmelnytskyi in 1941. The city itself is also designated as a separate district within the region.
Kamyanets-Podilsky is located in the southern portion of the Khmelnytskyi Oblast, located in the western Ukrainian region of Podillia. The Smotrych River, a tributary of the Dniester, flows through the city. The total area of the city comprises 27.84 square kilometers (10.7 sq mi). The city is located about 101 kilometres (62.8 mi) from the oblast’s administrative
Several historians consider that a city on this spot was founded by the ancient Dacians, who lived in what is now modern Romania, Moldova, and portions of Ukraine. Historians claim that the founders named the settlement Petridava or Klepidava, which originate from the Greek word petra or the Latin lapis meaning “stone” and the Dacian dava meaning “city”.
The different peoples and cultures that have lived in the city have each brought their own culture and architecture. Examples include the Polish, Ukrainian and Armenian markets. Famous tourist attractions include the ancient castle, and the numerous architectural attractions in the city’s center, including the cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul, Holy Trinity Church , the city hall building, and the numerous fortifications.

Sofiyivskyi Park
Sofiyivsky Park is a botanical garden and a scientific-researching institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The park is located in the northern part of the Uman city, near the river Kamianka. Some areas of the park are reminiscent of an English garden. Today the park is a popular recreational spot, annually visited by 500 000 visitors.
Sofiyivsky Park has fantastical lakes, fountains, grottos, gazebos, bridges, pavilions, statues and much more! Purchase a map at the entrance and plot out an itinerary, for the park covers over 385 acres and is crisscrossed by numerous paved walkways with few posted signs. The map allows visitors to target areas to see—all with intriguing names such as the Island of Love, Ionian Sea, Flora Pavilion, or Grotto of Apollo.
Park starts with Main entrance on Sadova Street. The central alley starts after main entrance. Main entrance towers, which were built in 1850-1852, are still standing there. Tourist service center, which is now called The House of Science Art is located close. This building has original architecture with observation area on the top. Besides museum, the building has hotel, restaurant and sauna.
According to the architect’s plan the park is an illustration to some parts of the poems “Iliad” and “Odyssey” by Homer. “Sofiyivka” is famous for being built on a classical basis. When we walk along the alleys of the English Park to the Acheron Lake our attention is attracted by the hill, made artificially. We assume that this barrow symbolizes Elpenorus’ grave. Elpenorus was the youngest men in Odysseus.
