T: Today we’ll devote our lesson to a great spring holiday: Easter. It′s a religious holiday. The people celebrate it in many countries and also in Ukraine. It is a joyful time for everyone. The cold dark winter days are over. Birds return to sing. Grass and flowers begin to make a new carpet for the Earth. Today you will know about Easter traditions and symbols in Great Britain and in Ukraine.
Під музику виходять діти з Великобританії.
Dasha : «So, we have just come to Ukraine».
Ehor: «Children, today we have guests from England. Let’s meet them».
English children: How do you do!
Ukrainian children: How do you do!
Masha : «Welcome to Ukraine, dear friends».
Dasha: My name is Jane, and this is James, this is Mary.
Ukrainian children: Glad to meet you!
Teacher: «English children will tell you how Easter is celebrated in England and Ukrainian children will tell you how Easter is celebrated in Ukraine. I think there are some small differences between Ukrainian and British traditions. Easter is connected with the name of Jesus Christ. Let’s remember about it. Jesus Christ was born more than 2000 thousand years ago in order to treat, to study and help people».
( Показ презентації та розповідь про свято Великодня)
Ehor : «Easter is the story of Jesus’ last days in Jerusalem before his death».
Masha : «Jesus went to Jerusalem to celebrate a holiday. But the Jewish leaders wanted to kill him because they didn’t` t like that he said he was the Son of God».
Ehor : «The next morning the enemies of Jesus came to arrest him. So, they decided to crucify Jesus. The soldiers made Jesus take his own cross. They made fun of Jesus. They nailed Jesus to a cross. When Jesus died they placed his body in a tomb. It was like a cave, made of stone».
Esenia: «Two days later, a friend of Jesus, Mary Magdalene, was walking past the cave and saw there was nobody there. The she saw a man not far from the tomb. Suddenly he turned and spoke to her and she recognized that it was Jesus. He had risen from the dead. People were so happy when they saw him».
(Стихотворение: “Easter Day” by Evelyn Stein»)
Liza: «Easter is the time of joy
For all people, girls and boys
Joyfully today we sing:
Jesus is arisen King».
What a Happy Easter day!
Let your fears go away,
Eat and drink and have some fun
Under yellow Easter sun!
Time has come to celebrate
Please come over, don’t be late
Easter’s coming, on the way,
It will be a happy day!
I wish you happiness and love
To be forever young and healthy
And other good important stuff,
Like being cheerful, fun and wealthy!
All the pupils: Happy Easter
Esenia: «Children, will you tell us how Easter is celebrated in England».
James and Jane: «With pleasure! »
James: «Easter is a holiday of spring, life and flowers. In Britain people usually celebrate it between late March and late April. Easter starts on Friday before Easter Sunday. The British call it Good Friday».
Jane: «On this day they eat hot cross buns and give children chocolate eggs and chocolate rabbits. Eggs and rabbits are some of the Easter symbols. My family joins other families on a hill to watch the sunrise. Then we have breakfast with other families».
Hot Cross Buns, Hot Cross Buns.
One a penny, two a penny, Hot Cross Buns.
If you have no daughters, give them to your sons.
Hot Cross Buns, Hot Cross Buns.
J ames: « After breakfast on Easter Sunday people go to the church for a service to celebrate Jesus rising from the dead. Afterwards, at home, everyone gives each other chocolate eggs. Children in England get big ones filled with sweets».
Jane: «A very popular Easter tradition is to have an «Easter egg hunt». Parents hide Easter egg and their children have to look for them. After that they have dinner with their families».
Bovdui: «We have read that you celebrate Easter even at school, haven’t you?
Sasha: «At school we have an Easter competition. Last year we designed and made colorful hats on the theme of Easter. Look! I made this one. Isn`t it nice? »
I’ll make a pretty Easter hat,
To wear at Easter time
I’ll put some flowers on it,
And a bow will make it fine.
We’ll fasten on some ribbons,
All pretty pink and blue,
Then we’ll take a picture
And I’ll give it to you.
Bovdui: «Thank you, Jane, it’s beautiful! »
Sasha : «In my school we made Easter baskets. Look how beautiful it is! And I’ll give it to you as a present».
Ehor : «Thank you very much».
Jane : «My favorite activity is egg hunting. We compete who finds more eggs».
Zhuravska : «Little kids think Easter Bunny hides them. They have a lot of fun with hunting in the gardens and their homes for the eggs that the Easter Bunny has hidden.
(Пісня ‘Easter Bunny”)
Sasha : «How do you celebrate Easter? »
Ehor : «In Ukraine we celebrate Easter later than people do in Britain. But this year we celebrate it at the same time, on the 20th of April. We go to church on the Saturday night before Easter, we light candles and then the priest says «Christ is risen» and the people answer «He is risen indeed ».
Lera: «People return to their homes for a long family feast. Tables are traditionally decorated with fresh flowers and painted eggs. Eggs are decorated, and traditional dishes include kulich, a special Easter cake».
Masha: «On Sunday we eat our Easter meal all together near the church or at home with guests. Traditional Easter presents in our country are paskhas and Easter eggs».
Pelykh: «We usually color our Easter eggs red. This colour symbolizes the blood of Jesus. We give presents to everybody: family, to poor families, orphanages, friends, godchildren, godparents and strangers. We have a lot of Easter games. One of them is the «Easter egg hunt». Children love it».
James: What is special about Easter in Ukraine?
Ehor : After breakfast, people go out to visit friends and neighbors, bringing with painted eggs to exchange. Look, I will tell you: “Christ is risen!” You must rely back “He is risen indeed!” (Сценка. Діти дарують англичанам яйца і вчать як в Україні славлять Христа.)

James: «How do children celebrate Easter? »
Serhei : «Children often play games with the eggs».
Teacher: «People in Great Britain and Ukraine play different games with eggs.
«Egg-rolling is a traditional Easter pastime. People roll boiled eggs down a slope until they are cracked and broken». Children also like to play this game. They put some eggs, toys and other things on the carpet. Then a child rolls his egg to the thing he wants to win. If his egg touches with this thing, he will win it.
What is a holiday without games!
Let’s play!
Игра №1: «Golden Egg Hunt»
The first game is Golden Egg Hunt
Who wants to play? I need 3 participants for this game. One of the eggs is painted gold. In the 30-second time limit you have to find the golden egg. The first who finds it is the winner.
Игра №2: «Hatch Match»
The next game is “ Hatch Match”. This game involves 2 participants. You have to match the halves of the plastic eggs. Try and make it as much as quicker. The first who makes it faster is the winner.
Игра №3: Сhildren, do you know the story about Easter rabbit? Why do English children think that Easter Rabbit hides eggs for them?
Now we’ll learn about it. We’ll hatch the eggs. I have 10 plastic eggs with sentences. The first player “hatches” an egg, reads the sentence. The next player chooses an egg and reads the sentence. When all eggs have been hatched, the last hatcher has arranged the sentences in a logical story.
Long ago in Germany there lived an old woman who loved children.
Each year she would give children gifts to celebrate spring.
One year she had nothing to give because she became very poor.
All she had were some eggs.
She didn’t’ want to disappoint the children, she coloured the eggs and hid them in the grass.
When the children arrived, she told them to run out into the lawn to find their gifts hiding there.
The children ran into the yard in search of their surprise.
As one of the children uncovered the eggs, a large rabbit hopped away.
So the children thought that the rabbit had left the eggs from them.
And ever since, children searched for the eggs left by the Easter rabbit on Easter morning.
T: Can you read the whole story?
Jane: I’ll try.
T: While Jane is preparing to read the story, we’ll play another game.
Игра №4: “Who has got the eggs?” Діти стають у коло, в центрі сидить «Bunny rabbit» і тримає яйце. Діти ходять навколо і співають:
Make a circle. In the centre is sitting Bunny rabbit. Put the hat on, please. Close your eyes, take the egg in your hands. So, let’s start.
”Bunny rabbit,
Where′re your eggs?
Bunny rabbit, guess!
Ask who′s got it,
Bunny rabbit! Have you got the egg, Helen? No, I haven’t
See who answers yes!
Т: Jane , are you ready? Please, read the text.
T: Well done, Jane. Good of you. Now we have known why English children think that Easter Rabbit hides eggs for them?
Игра №5: Next game is very popular among Ukrainian children. This game involves 2 players, who hold an egg each. They knock the eggs together force fully, and the winner is the person whose egg remains intact.
Are there volunteers? Please, knock the eggs.
Игра № 6: “How Many Eggs”– For this game we have got a large glass jar filled with eggs, take your pencils in your hands. I’ll place the jar of eggs here in order everyone can see it. You must guess how many eggs are in the jar, write their name and your answer on a piece of scrap paper, and place the paper in the Easter basket. The person who guesses closest wins the prize.
Игра № 7: Walk the egg: For this game we’ll need two hard boiled eggs and one spoon for each player. Let’s divide into two teams and form a lone so that you are standing side by side. I’ll put an egg on your spoon and you gave to pass it to the next person in line. The egg can only be passed from spoon to spoon. No one can touch it with their hands. The egg must go all the way to the end of the line and then back to the person at the front of the line. The team which gets their egg at the front of the line will be the winner.
Summarizing.
T: Children, thank you ever so much for your work. You were super at the lesson. Next lesson we’ll start to speak about Christmas in Great Britain. And now let’s make a conclusion. Tell me, please, what we have done today?
